HAMDEN - Quinnipiac University in Hamden has opened a Hillel House to serve the school's Jewish students.

Located at 560 New Road, just across the street from the Mount Carmel Campus in the former home of the Quinnipiac Polling Institute, the new Hillel is a chapter of the national Hillel organization. The house has a kosher kitchen, a lounge, a large social room for services and traditional meals, a reading room, an office for the university's Rabbi Reena Judd and a room for a future Jewish book and video library. With an estimated 350 Jewish students on campus, the house will be used for high holy day services, Sabbath meals and festival parties for Chanukah and Passover, and as a place to relax and socialize.

"The house provides a place on campus for Jewish students to participate in Hillel activities, so they can express their Judaism in ways that are Judaically authentic," Judd said.
